The Raptor will be due to mid-cycle renovation for the 2020 model year. Adding the high-performance gas / electric hybrid powertrain could just keep the Raptor ticket at the top of its game. Ford announced that it intends to produce a hybrid Ford F-150 by 2020. Here is the Ford Electric Vehicles press release January 2017 as an outline plan for this hybrid Ford F-150 and other vehicles 2020.

The additional power and torque of a hybrid system can make the Raptor faster than ever. The extra torque is always good for low-speed off-roading. This alone can offer a limited driving range of electrical power. 2020 Ford Raptor Hybrid says the Hybrid F-150 can serve as a mobile generator. It would be very cool for our next Off-Road adventure/camping trip.

Of course, the hybrid system will add the cost of an already expensive truck. It will also add a truck weight that is already challenged in the Load and Tow Rating section.

Ford must improve the Raptor’s off-road suspension or simply increase it to maintain Raptor’s load and towing ability. What about the high price? 2017 Raptor’s first price and dealership signs have not stifled iconic off-road truck sales. My bet is that a Raptor Hybrid will be welcomed by customers, and you can start the general consumer adoption of this kick-gas / electric hybrid pickup truck.
