2023 Ford Super Duty: New F-Series Super Duty Pickup Truck Review

2023 Ford Super Duty introduces the all-new 2023 F-Series Super Duty. The pickup truck lineup and chassis cab were redesigned inside and out, featuring new powertrain options as well as new crane features, in-cab technology, and 5G capabilities.

Add to that the suite of cloud-based services that Ford says offer a new level of productivity.

From the F-250 pickup to the F-600 utility truck, Super Duty is the badge American men and women trust to get the toughest jobs done,” said Jim Farley, President, and CEO of Ford. “Super Duty customers are the builders – the backbone of our community and economy.

We poured every ounce of knowledge and ingenuity we had into developing their dream truck – smarter, more powerful, full of smart features and technology.”

Ford said Super Duty enjoys more than 50 percent market share in utility, mining, construction, and emergency response vehicles, according to S&P Global Mobility. It also makes a significant economic contribution to Ford Motor Company generating more revenue than many Fortune 500 companies, including Southwest Airlines, Marriott International, and Nordstrom, report for 2021.

2023 Ford Super Duty Review

The 2023 Ford Super Duty has entered a phase where many online media have reviewed this phenomenal dashing 2023 F250. Mentioned By Ford USA Cars that Ford unveiled its redesigned 2023 Super Duty in September 2022, but isn’t ready to talk about the truck’s specifications just yet.

2023 Ford Super Duty

The numbers are out now, and they’re impressive: The Super Duty can tow up to 40,000 pounds, and its turbodiesel offers 1,200 pound-feet of torque.

Buyers will have four V8 engines to choose from. On the petrol-powered side of the range, options include a new 6.8-liter engine with 405 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque and a 7.3-liter engine updated to develop the 430 and 485 respectively.

Riders with something heavy to pull for sure would be interested in any available turbodiesel engines. The 6.7-liter Power Stroke develops 475 horsepower and 1,050 pound-feet of torque in its standard configuration, and the high-output versions increase those figures to 500 and 1,200 respectively.

The only transmission available is a 10-speed automatic, and buyers can choose from the rear- or four-wheel drive.

How many 2023 Super Duty quests can be pulled depends a lot on how it’s configured and what kind of obstacles are installed. Unlocking the 40,000-pound capacity (roughly 13 times the weight of the Subaru BRZ !) requires an F-450 and attaching a gooseneck hitch.

Alternatively, the F-350 can tow up to 38,000 pounds when equipped with the same hitch. Conventional towing capacity check-in at 30,000 pounds.

Drivers with something to haul won’t be disappointed either. The payload champion of the lineup is the F-350 XL with rear-wheel drive, dual rear wheels, regular cab, and optional Heavy Duty Payload Package. Its value is 8,000 pounds.

Ford also offers trucks with a long list of technological features that make towing and transport easy, including Trailer Navigation functionality, built-in generators, and Onboard Scales.

New Look Package

New look packages are also available: The STX, Sport and Black Appearance packages offer various trim, wheel, and paint combinations. The new XL Off-Road package is available on the F-250 or F-350 models with a single 4×4 rear wheel.

It adds tough 33-inch tires, a raised air dam, water-rafting axle vent bay tubes, skid plates, and an electronically locking rear differential.

2023 Ford Super Duty Powertrain Options

We don’t know the power and towing figures yet, but here’s what we do know. The new Super Task has four engine choices:

  • The new standard 6.8-liter V8 petrol engine targets lower torque for starting on steep grades and joining the road more easily
  • The 7.3-liter V8 targets best-in-class gas power and torque thanks to improved air intake and tuning
  • Power Stroke V8 6.7 liter diesel engine that has longer intervals between oil changes to run longer
  • New high output 6.7 liters V8 Power Stroke Diesel with unique turbo, upgraded exhaust manifold, and unique tuning targeting best-in-class horsepower and torque

Each engine is mated to a 10-speed T orqShift automatic transmission designed and built by Ford. Ford also says that each chassis cab model comes standard with a power take-off link to run auxiliary equipment, such as boom lifts and plows. Additionally, four-wheel drive is now standard on XLT models and above.

Ford Pro Upfit Integration System

Ford calls its new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System (UIS) Super Duty a game changer for customers who rely on body kits and equipment to get the job done, such as a utility crane or plow. This digital solution gives aftermarket equipment makers greater access to Super Duty electrical and signal systems to seamlessly integrate and operate their hardware into the truck’s digital display**.

The cloud-based software connects to the UIS so equipment manufacturers can add digital buttons that allow drivers to control their equipment from inside the truck. The system also allows high levels of adjustment* and safety interlocks,** such as preventing the transmission from shifting to the drive with the boom lift raised.

Power Pro Onboard

As you’d expect, Pro Power Onboard is now available for Super Duty. The 2.0-kilowatt output can power a job site or tailgate party. Electrical outlets can be accessed inside trucks and cargo boxes, or they can be installed in the chassis cab with a special outlet installation kit.

Towing and Safety Features

Ford says about 96% of heavy-duty pickup owners use their trucks for towing. While we await specs, Ford says its new Super Duty targets best-in-class payloads and tows for every type of trailer.

New driver assistance technologies available that are designed to make towing easier include:

  • Onboard Scale with Smart Hitch that estimates cargo weight in real-time and provides guidance on trailer tongue weight distribution right on the center touchscreen, the FordPass app, or in the taillights
  • 360-Degree Trailer Camera System** which provides a view of the trailer from above to make maneuvering in tight spaces easier and with virtually no blind spots
  • Blind Spot Information System for Fifth Wheel & Goose Neck that can be attached to a trailer to help identify when a vehicle is next to a trailer and show it in the side mirrors
  • The industry’s First Available Tailgate Down Camera and Tailgate Down Reverse Sensing System includes a new camera and reverse sensor on top of the tailgate that provides visual and audible alerts when the tailgate is down for backing up to dock or attaching a gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer more easily from the previous
  • Pro Trailer Hitch Assist automatically reverses the truck and aligns a conventional hitch ball to the trailer receiver
  • Trailer Navigation plots a route that can be safely navigated with specific trailer dimensions and weights to avoid potential problems with low bridges and tight turns

“Our goal is to have the driver have no blind spots, even when towing the longest trailers,” said Andrew Kernahan, Ford Super Duty chief engineer.

“The camera view provides every angle, from simulating a drone to ensuring the customer can see behind the truck even when the tailgate is lowered. Hitchhiking and towing has never been easier.”

New safety and security technologies available include:

  • Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering automatically brakes and accelerates to a set speed and helps keep the truck on track
  • Trailer Theft Alerts will send an alert via the FordPass app if anyone tries to release the trailer while the truck is locked
  • Vehicle Security, available with a Ford Pro Telematics subscription, uses sensors to monitor collision and tow events and sends alerts even when the vehicle is off
  • Fleet Start Inhibit allows Ford Pro customers to schedule timeframes for when vehicles can be started to increase confidence around fleet operations
  • Forward/Reverse Sensing System assists the driver by pinpointing objects directly in front of the vehicle and alerting them when objects are near the front or rear of the vehicle
  • Front * and Rear Brake Assist help prevent low-speed collisions to help automatically protect against impact objects that may be difficult to see
  • A full-color head-up display helps keep an eye on the road by showing information right in the driver’s line of sight that changes with driving mode
